About SHSM:
Sacred Heart Southern Missions is a Catholic ministry in the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi, served by priests and brothers of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, sisters from many different religious communities, and dedicated lay ministers. We are a community of faiths working to build up the Catholic Church and make a difference in the lives of people of all faiths who struggle in poverty. Our priests serve six parishes in an area that is only two-percent Catholic. We serve five northern counties of Mississippi and are headquartered in Walls, Mississippi.
We have been a safety net for individuals and families since 1942. Serving the five northern counties, DeSoto, Tate, Tunica, Marshall and Benton with our six social service offices spread across these counties, we provide emergency assistance (food, clothing, and utilities), skill development, advocacy and counseling for people living in poverty within our service area.
Through our active Volunteer Service program, we are able to gather groups and individuals across the country to help with food distributions, holiday programs, and a variety of projects aimed at providing back to the community.
